The European Day of Languages is 26 September, as proclaimed by the Council of Europe on 6 December 2001, at the end of the European Year of Languages(2001), which had been jointly organised by the Council of Europe and the European Union. Its aim is to encourage language learning across Europe.
Since 26 September 2001 and at the initiative of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, the European Day of Languages (EDL) is celebrated every year around the world!
In Tunisia, the celebration of this day is in its fourth year. EDL aims to promote in the world and in Tunisia the plurality of languages and to raise awareness about the importance of learning foreign languages and intercultural understanding. This year, EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture - network of European national cultural institutes) will celebrated on September 26th the EDL in all European cultural institutes in Tunisia. Genuine promotion of rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe is a day dedicated to pupils, students, teachers or any other person willing (or curious) to learn more about that propose different institutes cultural Tunisia.
The very light challenge here was played for visiting all mentioned institutes from 9am to 3pm : the British Council Tunisia, l’Instituto Camões (Potugal), l’Instituto Cervantes Túnez (Spain), l’Istituto taliano di Cultura (IICTunisi), le Goethe-Institut Tunis et l’Institut Français de Tunisie (French Institute). Equipped with a "passport" which they will receive a stamp at the entrance of each institute (see attached above), visitors will learn about the various activities and services offered.
