'Gender-based violence' and 'violence against women' are terms that are often used interchangeably as most gender-based violence is inflicted by men on women and girls. However, it is important to retain the 'gender-based' aspect of the concept as this highlights the fact that violence against women is an expression of power inequalities between women and men. On December 6th, is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against in Canada in that I want to mention this blog post that the subject is related to the same issue. So this marks the anniversary of the murders of 1989 of 14 young women at l'Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal. They died because they were women. Last Friday December 4th, I was attending at the American embassy an interesting discussion about gender-based violence. I was really proud about our two young women Ahlem Nasraoui and Dorra Mlouhi, that they were talking with enthusiasm about their experiences and how are they working on this issue to avoid many things could happen to the fair-sex especially and focusing to fight against this kind of violence... *Dorra Mlouhi:Dorra Mlouhi is a technical Project Manager at TunpiXel. She serves as a Google student ambassador in the Middle East and North Africa region. Ms. Mlouhi works to empower women through technology and coding, and has visited many countries as part of her activism. *Ahlem Nasraoui:Ahlem Nasraoui is a Tunisian blogger, social entrepreneur and activist. As an activist she works for human rights and the universal rights of prosperity, education and a healthy environment. She is also the founder of the Young Leaders entrepreneurs association. Ms. Nasraoui works to support women’s empowerment and coaches young women to be independent, conscious of their rights, as well as to understand the legal and historical backgrounds of the gains and struggles of women in Tunisia. Let's thank from here the embassy for giving such a young people who are activists and encouraging them to talk freely about their projects, ideas and or somethings are different with an important issues to solve problems and discuss them into public. It is really a proud to hear them talking about like this subject of gender based-violence. Good luck for both of you in your future!
