As part of the Embassy’s “Meet a Diplomat” speaker series, the IRC event hosted an interesting discussion of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Primaries led by Rich Michaels, Political and Economic Counselor. The audience examined the number of votes Democratic and Republic candidates have received so far from delegates and how that translates concretely in terms of the race to The White House. Participants learned firsthand how candidates for the presidency finance their campaigns, the role of Political Action Committees, how electoral coalitions are formed, and how the U.S. electoral system compares with other electoral systems.
